JM Ranch

The JM Ranch is a fourth generation cattle ranch in Westhoff, Texas, about an hour southeast of San Antonio, an hour and a half south of Austin, and three hours west of Houston. We have been in the business of Simbrah cattle since a lucky “accident” happened in 1974. Jenebel and CJ McCollum, like many South Texas operators, raised Brahman and F-1 Braford cattle. Thinking about adding some beef to their Brafords, they bought a Simmental bull from Nebraska (they were new to the US in those days) and brought him to the ranch. Things didn’t exactly go as planned as he got out and visited some of their gray Brahman cattle… and the rest is history.

Jenebel and “Dr. Mac” were active in the show circuit in the 80’s and 90’s and loved everything about the Simbrah breed. They passed in the early 2000’s and the ranch became a commercial cow-calf operation but continued to maintain Simbrah and Simbrah-cross cattle as breeding stock. In 2018, we decided to return to our roots and got back into the registered Simbrah business.

I’m addition to our purebred Simbrah and SimAngus cattle, we have gone back to the basics of where we started and “make Simbrah” rather than only breeding purebred to purebred. The majority of our breeding herd are now F-1 Simbrah cows which we typically breed to either 3/4 Simmental 1/4 Brahman bulls to make first generation purebred Simbrah or breed to Hudgins Brahman bulls to make 3/4 Brahman 1/4 Simmental “Foundation Simbrah” offspring. We think the results of our approach to Simbrah speak for themselves but would love to show you what we are doing on the ranch. Rachel and Spencer Klotzman (Jenebel and CJ’s grandson) manage the ranch and are proud to continue this ranch into its fourth generation in the family and third generation in the Simbrah breed.
